Tom Parker Bowles famously has no illusions about what his mother Queen Camilla’s marriage to King Charles means for his own relevance to the British royal family. Case in point: the food writer recently appeared on Samuel Goldsmith’s “Good Food” podcast and joked that some kind of “revolution” would take place if he became a prince.
“I think we’re fairly balanced and sober and sensible country on the whole, but if I suddenly became prince, I think Buckingham Palace gates would be stormed,” Parker Bowles said. “It would be appalling. Really, no… I think that would put back the long and glorious cause of the monarchy in Britain by many years, no.”

Goldsmith then quipped that Parker Bowles “might get [his] own Netflix show” if he were granted a title, to which his guest replied, “I wouldn’t mind that!”

Since then, Tom has spoken positively about the realities of “blended families,” adding that his children “adore” King Charles, who has been a “wonderful step-grandfather” to his own kids, Lola and Freddy. The kids even have special nicknames for their grandparents.
“All of our children—my sister’s children, too—have grown up with Gaga and Uppa,” Tom explained. “They’ve grown up from an early age knowing no different. [They know] Gaga as Gaga, and that she’s a really great grandmother who occasionally spoils them in a good way.”

The author also once again acknowledged his position with regard to the Firm. “We are married in, we are not the royal family,” Tom added in the same People interview. “I find everyone incredibly nice and friendly and we’ve know them all for a long time. It does seem natural.”
