Mersey Ferries has issued a statement after all services were suspended. There are currently no services running on the river, with a spokesperson saying services have been suspended for “operational reasons”.
High winds have been encountered at the waterfront, with pedestrians battling against strong gusts on the Pier Head. Gusts of 38mph were recorded at Crosby earlier this morning, Friday, January 2
The Royal Iris is currently docked at Seacombe Ferry Terminal with white waves breaking along the choppy river.
In a post to X, a spokesperson for Mersey Ferries said: “Due to operational reasons, services are currently suspended. Keep checking back and we’ll let you know when services are likely to resume.
“Thank you for patience as our teams work to restore a full service.”

The Royal Iris is currently the only ferry in operation, with the Snowdrop out of service. The first new Mersey Ferry built since the 1960s, the Royal Daffodil, was launched in November and is expected to complete sea trials early this year.
