One of east Belfast’s most notable restaurants, Cyprus Avenue, will close at the end of the month, its owner announced on Friday.

The all day restaurant in Ballyhackamore, named after the nearby street made famous by Van Morrison, has been a fixture in the area for close to a decade, since opening at the end of 2016.

“After 10 wonderful years, the time has come for CA to close its doors at the end of January 2026,” owner Richard McCracken wrote in social media posts.

“It has been the honour of a lifetime to serve vibrant Ballyhackamore (and) a privilege to share so many memorable moments with you all over the past decade.

“From day one East Belfast has supported us with incredible loyalty, warmth (and) enthusiasm. For this we will be eternally grateful.”

Mr McCracken revealed the space, a derelict building on the Upper Newtownards Road when he took it over, has been sold to Balloo Inns, the owners of Balloo House in Killinchy. Mr McCracken worked at Balloo House when he was a student.

Balloo Inns “are great operators (and) have exciting plans to invest in a new dining venue, so watch this space — something truly special is coming. We wish them every success with their new venture,” Mr McCracken said.

“Our heartfelt thanks go to our amazing team past (and) present — your hard work, passion & commitment are what made CA what it was. We couldn’t have done this without you.

“Finally, thank you to all our guests for your continued support in being part of CA. We’ve loved welcoming you through our doors & we will treasure the memories made here forever.”
