Leeds United are very interested in bringing Artem Dovbyk in on loan as he heads towards the exit at Roma.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s super Leeds scoring run may have saved Daniel Farke’s job at Elland Road, which was under threat prior to the long unbeaten run that is still ongoing, but the club are still in search of help up front in the January window.

Leeds had been pursuing a move for Taty Castellanos from Lazio yet again but have lost out to West Ham, and now it could be Dovbyk from the other side of Rome who fills the gap.

The Ukrainian scored 12 Serie A goals last term but has only managed two this season and is set to depart the Stadio Olimpico as Roma overhaul their attack.

Leeds vs Sunderland to land January Artem Dovbyk loan

According to an update from Tutto Mercato Web in Italy Roma have already lined up a loan-to-buy deal to bring in Giacomo Raspadori from Atletico Madrid.

To make space Dovbyk, 28, is expected to be the most likely to make way, with England his probable destination.

A loan exit is on the cards, while Leeds and Sunderland are both credited with major interest in landing his signature.

Dovbyk was previously linked to a Leeds switch in the summer but nothing materialised as Calvert-Lewin and Lukas Nmecha came in on free transfers.

Calvert-Lewin scored in six consecutive games, including twice against Crystal Palace, before the goalless draw with Liverpool last time out.

Joel Piroe to leave Elland Road

Much of the discourse around Farke‘s standing at Elland Road has focused on the idea that he is a Championship specialist who doesn’t have the ability to succeed in the Premier League.

Longer term that perception holds but the current run of results is going a long way to disproving it, for now.

The same could certainly be levelled at Joel Piroe in attack, who has yet to find the net this term after scoring regularly for the Whites and Swansea in the second tier and is now behind Calvert-Lewin, Nmecha and Noah Okafor.

Even though his usage under Farke has caused frustration at times his record in front of goal was good, and he ultimately fulfilled his remit in helping fire the club back to the top flight, but it now looks like time for him to move on if Dovbyk could also arrive ahead of him in the pecking order.

Middlesbrough are believed to be interested in a Piroe deal and after 74 Championship goals, including play-offs, over the past four seasons it certainly looks like he would thrive back at that level again.
