Manchester United are set to face Leeds at Elland Road this Sunday following a disappointing draw against bottom-placed Wolves. Despite a shaky start to the season and rumours that head coach Ruben Amorim might be on his way out, United have shown signs of improvement.

However, a lacklustre display at Old Trafford just before the New Year has raised concerns. With an upcoming match against Leeds, a strong response is expected from Amorim’s squad after they were held at home to Wolves.

Unfortunately, young English star Kobbie Mainoo won’t be part of the action due to injury as rumours about his potential departure from the club continue to swirl with the January window open.

After requesting a loan move over the summer, Mainoo has struggled for game time and it appears he may have found a new opportunity to leave. The Manchester Evening News brings you the latest news from Old Trafford.

Sky has slashed the price of its Essential TV and Sky Sports bundle for the 2025/26 season, saving members £336 and offering more than 1,400 live matches across the Premier League, EFL and more.

Sky will show at least 215 live Premier League games this season, an increase of up to 100 more.

Kobbie Mainoo receives transfer offer

Mainoo’s situation at United has led to interest from several clubs, including Napoli, where players like Scott McTominay and Rasmus Hojlund have found success after leaving United.

New reports suggest that an offer from Turkey could be on the table. Turkish media outlet Sabah reports that Besiktas have approached Mainoo’s club about a possible loan deal.

According to reports, this potential transfer would involve an 18-month arrangement and it’s currently uncertain whether United would consider it, or indeed how Mainoo might respond. The England international currently has just 12 months remaining on his United contract and at only 20 years of age, he’s likely seeking regular first-team opportunities.

Discussing the club’s January transfer window strategy this week, however, Amorim commented: “The transfer window is not going to change. We have no conversation to have any change in the squad. There is a process, there is an idea – that is going to continue.”

Addressing potential departures from Old Trafford before the window shuts, he continued: “No, none of them. I don’t expect them to come to me to ask [to leave].”

Joao Gomes update provided

Despite Bruno Fernandes establishing himself as a key figure in Amorim’s midfield, United have been linked with speculation surrounding a new central midfielder.

Brighton’s Carlos Baleba was reportedly targeted during the summer and fresh rumours indicate the club are considering an approach for him in January.

Another name allegedly on their radar is Wolves midfielder Joao Gomes. But a recent update from the Mail suggests that the Brazilian star has attracted significant attention from other clubs as well.

In their latest report, the publication states that Gomes has admirers in his native Brazil, as well as across Europe, meaning United could encounter competition should they attempt to secure the midfielder this month or during the summer.
