Weather is badly impacting the road network

A weather alert for ice and heavy snow is in place this morning.

The alerts cover Anglesey, Gwynedd, Conwy, Denbighshire, Flintshire and Wrexha m.

The Met Office warned of travel disruption due to snow and ice.

There are already major incidents on the A55 and A487.

Current closures and problems:

  • (9.20am) Reports of slow traffic due to accident on A5 in both directions around Braichmelyn. Update at 10.10am – road now closed at Bethesda High Street.
  • Reports of accident on A548 Sealand Road at Burgess Drive.
  • A4086 in both directions just passable due to snow from the A498 (Pont Pen-y-benglog) to Nant Ffynnon (Nant Peris).
  • A55 J11 Llandygai – Closed. Junction currently closed due to poor weather conditions and an incident involving HGV’S. (now open, 8am)
  • A487 closed in both directions Maentwrog – Gellilydan. (now passable with care)
  • Reports of accident on Penrhos Road around Penchwintan Road in Bangor. (now clear)
  • Major snow on the A5 between Capel Curig and Bethesda.
  • A4244 in both directions just passable due to snow from A4086 to the Clwt y Bont turn off.
  • Many smaller Eryri roads now closed with bus firm saying “area is not serviceable” at this time.
