Met Office warns of tricky driving conditions

Lows of -8C are expected on Sunday night, along with further scattered snowfall – with a thaw in conditions not expected until midweek.
Tom Morgan, meteorologist with the Met Office, told the Belfast Telegraph that Sunday night “will be the last of the widely severe frosty weather”.

“We have a weather warning in place that will continue until midday Monday. We will have scattered snow flurries today and we currently have 6cm of snow in Castlederg and 4cm in other areas and 3cm in Ballypatrick Forest,” said the meteorologist.

“We can see around five to 10 in a few spots for the next 24 hours, particularly in the mountains such as the Sperrins. It will make for some difficult driving conditions at the start of the new working week for returns to school and work.

“I would recommend to take some extra time for travel as the road may be covered in snow and ice.

“It is going to stay cold throughout the week, but not bitterly cold compared to the weekend. Rain and sleet on Tuesday will see some thawing of the snow, though that does carry the risk of ice.”
