Filmmaker J.J. Abrams’ next feature is reportedly set to be titled “The Great Beyond”.
World of Reel reports that the title has emerged from a WGA filing with Abrams credited on the screenplay. The project was previously going by the working title “Ghostwriter”.
Set up at Warner Bros. Pictures, the project follows “an author of popular fantasy novels who reveals that the mythical world he’s known for creating is actually real, sending the lead character on a quest”
Glenn Powell, Jenna Ortega, Emma Mackey, and Samuel L. Jackson star in the film, which is rumoured to be a 1980s throwback with “The Last Starfighter” serving as inspiration.
Filming took place in London back in mid-2025, with post-production now well underway. The project is separate from the Dwayne Johnson-led film penned by Zak Penn which is also in the works.
“The Great Beyond” will mark Abrams’ first directorial effort since 2019’s “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker”.
