Snow has fallen in parts of the north-west of England as freezing temperatures set in at the start of the year.

Wintry showers fell earlier as the Met Office has issued a yellow warning of snow and ice in the region until 12:00 GMT on Monday.

Travel is likely to be disrupted and there is likely to be patches of ice on untreated roads and paths, the forecasters have warned.

People who are travelling during the cold spell are being warned to take care and plan ahead by the likes of Greater Manchester’s Bee Network, Manchester Airport and Merseytravel.
