Emergency services blocked off the scene while they dealt with the incident

A car flipped on its roof after crashing into street furniture in Allerton. Emergency services were called to the junction of Mather Avenue and Long Lane at around 3.30pm on Monday, January 5, following reports a Mazda had crashed with street furniture before overturning.
Police closed the road in both directions as emergency crews dealt with the incident. Bus operator Arriva North West warned passengers of diversions as a result of the crash.
In a post on X, the company said: “Due to a police incident at Long Lane/Mather Ave, Garston, services 80, 80A, 86A, 166 and 201 will divert via Aigburth Road and Aigburth Hall Avenue towards Liverpool and Belle Vale.
“Services towards Speke are operating as normal. Delays are likely, please allow extra time for your journey.”
A witness reported seeing police, ambulance and fire crews at the scene.

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: “This was a single-vehicle road traffic collision in which a Mazda collided with street furniture and came to rest on its roof.
“Emergency services remain at the scene.”
The force added that a slight injury was reported. The road has since reopened.
