Department for Infrastructures urges road users to make extra time for journeys
The Department for Infrastructure (DfI) urged all road users to make extra time for journeys this week.
“The Department delivers a winter service programme to mitigate, as far as is reasonably possible, the effects of adverse winter weather,” said a spokesperson.
“At times of ice and snow we deploy around 300 staff and a fleet of 130 gritters – working round the clock when needed – to salt around 7,000 kilometres of the main road network.
“A Met Office weather warning for snow and ice remains in place until 12.00pm on Monday 5 January. Throughout the course of the weekend roads on the scheduled network have been salted a number of times.
“We urge all road users to leave extra time for their journey and be mindful of changing conditions. Drivers are reminded to slow down and exercise caution when travelling, particularly when driving on untreated roads.”
