Police have revealed what the suspicious package was that shut down several streets in Sheffield city centre today (Tuesday, January 6).
A cordon closed Furnace Hill, Trinity Street, Copper Street and West Bar in Sheffield for several hours this afternoon as South Yorkshire Police investigated an unattended package. After the explosive ordnance disposal attended the scene and disposed of the package, the cordon has been lifted and the roads reopened, with police confirming the suspicious package was just a TV in a box.
A spokesperson for the force said: “Please be aware Furnace Hill, Trinity Street, Copper Street and West Bar have now reopened following reports of an unattended package in Sheffield.
“Officers attended Scotland Street shortly after 10.15am this morning (Tuesday 6 January) to reports of an unattended package. The Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team attended the scene and carried out a controlled explosion in a safe location as a precaution. Following inspection, we believe the package was a TV inside a box.
“A cordon, which was in place for people’s safety, has now been lifted. We would like to thank the public for your patience and co-operation.”
