Golfer’s disbelief as ball ends on iced moat at Hampshire course

A golfer has described a moment of disbelief when his ball ended up in the middle of a frozen water hazard.

Stewart Owen, from New Milton, was taking advantage of the bright, clear conditions in Hampshire on Monday to enjoy a round at Barton-on-Sea.

But on the 18th hole, he watched his ball “just skate across” the ice to the centre of a frozen moat.

Snow and ice warning were in place as temperatures dipped to -8C at Bournemouth Airport on Monday night.
