As temperatures have dropped significantly in the past days, it’s important to keep your house and yourself warm.

Here are some useful tips to keep on top of your energy bills during the winter months:

  • if you’re struggling to pay your energy bills, are in debt to your supplier, or unable to top up your prepayment meter, contact your energy supplier as soon as possible
  • free energy advice is available for Swindon and Wiltshire residents through Centre for Sustainable Energy (Warm and Safe Wiltshire), funded by the council. Call 0800 038 5722
  • Citizens Advice Swindon can help you find the best support and grants for your individual needs

The Government has announced that the Household Support Fund will be extended to cover the period between April 2025 and the end of March 2026 to help households with the cost of food, energy and wider essentials.

A number of community venues across Swindon, known as Welcome Spaces, are available to residents to spend time, stay warm and feel safe through the winter period and beyond. Check the list and opening times here.

Swindon Borough Council has plenty of advice, help and support available on their website which can be found here.
