Decathon informed Spain’s National Commission of Markets and Competition (CNMC) on Dec. 31 that it intends to acquire Intersport Spain’s buying group and services, according to Diffusion Sport.
The CNMC has a month to gauge the transaction’s effects on competition in the market, although it might decide to perform a deeper analysis over three or four additional months – and thus take things into April or May.
An indebted Intersport Spain filed for pre-insolvency in the summer of 2024, filed for voluntary insolvency in February 2025 and entered liquidation in August 2025. At least three companies – Base Detall Sport, Eren (owner of Intersport Turkey) and Intersport France – had looked shortly before into acquiring Intersport Spain. Intersport France at last stepped up in November, adding the 385 Iberian stores to its own 813 in France and 127 in Belgium. The acquirer is coordinating operations in Spain and Portugal, overseeing logistics, marketing and strategy, and supporting the cooperatives in both markets.
