It is a time of year for new beginnings, when eyes are cast on the future and the hope of the new start … potentially somewhere else.
Boxing Day traditionally signals the start of the home-moving season – and this year was the busiest ever for visits to the Rightmove platform.
And the online estate agent has revealed what Scots were looking for – with a five-storey detached home in Ayrshire revealed as the most-viewed home.
‘The Pines’, in Ayr, was the only Scottish property to make it into a list of the UK’s most-viewed immediately after Christmas.

Valued at offers over £560,000, the house is said to be a “beautifully designed, family home set within an exclusive woodland enclave”, offering “tranquillity, privacy and exceptional living space”.
The listing for the property adds: “Tucked away behind mature trees and accessed via a private road with a generous driveway for multiple cars,
“The Pines immediately sets the tone for what’s inside: space, style and thoughtful modern design.”

Nine other homes made the list, which was topped by a £1.3m converted farmhouse with its own pool in Winkleigh, Devon.
Other properties featured included a Grade II Listed Georgian terraced house in Dunmow, Essex, valued at £475,000, and architect-designed home dating to 1874 priced £1.2m near London, and a first-time buyer flat in Huddersfield on the market for £190,000.

Steve Pimblett, Rightmove’s Chief Data Officer said: “There’s a huge variety of homes in Boxing Day’s most viewed list, highlighting the different types of buyers that are gearing up for a potential 2026 move.
“As usual, there are some stunning large family homes with luxury features on the list, but there are also some really well-presented smaller properties suited for potential first-time buyers.
“Homes from England, Scotland & Wales all make the top ten, and there’s also a mix of urban hotspots with commuter links into major cities and homes near lots of green space with privacy.”
