With Storm Goretti fast approaching, West Yorkshire locals are preparing to be battered by snow and rain.
Storm Goretti is the first named in 2026, according to the Met Office, and it is set to develop “rapidly” as it approaches the UK starting Thursday, January 8, 2026. This has led to a Yellow Weather Warning for West Yorkshire – including Huddersfield – due to the storm.
While nearby South Yorkshire (including Sheffield) has been placed under a more severe Amber warning, the effect on West Yorkshire is expected to be slightly milder.
The storm has been described as a ‘multi-hazard’ event by the Met Office due to the combination of ‘disruptive’ winds, snow and rain. These weather conditions may cause hazardous travelling conditions, ice, traffic chaos and flooding in parts of the UK.

- Active Period: 5pm Thursday (January 8) to 12pm Friday (January 9).
- Primary Hazard: Heavy snow transitioning from rain during Thursday evening and night.
