Shea Lacey finally got minutes for Manchester United against Burnley, and his impact was huge, establishing himself as a proper option for Darren Fletcher.

The 18-year-old only got 11 minutes in Manchester United’s 2-2 draw with Burnley, but he made it count.

Just 60 seconds into his cameo, Shea Lacey rattled the crossbar with a shot from outside the box, using his trademarked left foot to cut inside and seek a goal of the season contender.

Again in the 94th minute, Lacey had an effort from range which flew wide, but the intent and direct attacking play was exciting, with the shot also not far away.

Gary Neville was impressed with Lacey, questioning where the teenager had been all this time, admitting how deadly his left foot looked to be as he tried to write the headlines for himself.

After the game ended, Lacey took to Instagram with a message.

Lacey certainly did try until the very end, not settling for the draw, going for the winner every chance he got, epitomising what a United player should be.

Harry Amass leads responses to Lacey

Lacey is a popular figure within the academy ranks, and his teammates from the academy have been flooding his comments with support after his post.

Leading the replies, recently returned loanee Harry Amass labelled Lacey as “special”, with a heart emoji following this.

Meanwhile, Tyler Fletcher commented, “R1 + Circle”, which is a reference to the old FIFA games in which those combinations of buttons on a PlayStation remote triggered a shot similar to the one Lacey pulled off.

Jack Fletcher added flame emojis, no doubt slightly annoyed that he didn’t get to play with his dad as head coach.

Other responses were also sent:

Lacey has shown himself ready for this level of football, so it wouldn’t be a shock to see his minutes increase. This could begin against Brighton, where Lacey has surely played his way into starting contention in the FA Cup.
