Si King has confirmed that the Hairy Bikers have come to an end following the death of his co-star, Dave Myers.

The pair became one of Britain’s most cherished duos, their bond cemented by a mutual love for food and motorbikes. They graced our screens in numerous cooking shows such as The Hairy Bikers’ Cookbook and The Hairy Dieters, creating over 30 series together, reports the Express.

However, their partnership ended in 2024 when Dave died of cancer at the age of 66.

TV star Si confessed: “It’s done. That’s it. The Bikers were plural. There’s no Hairy Bikers without my mate.”

Speaking to Radio Times about their unshakeable friendship, he added: “He doesn’t stop being your best mate just because he’s passed away. That’s never going to go. We were like brothers: we drove each other mad, because we were two very different people, but we absolutely adored each other.

“So nobody’s ever going to take his place. I don’t want to look in the rear-view mirror of my motorcycle and see anyone else there. It’s Dave, you know? And the same when he was leading: I drove hundreds of miles looking at his ugly ass. That’s my memory, that’s what I want to keep. That’s what it was about.”

Si is now focusing on his new Channel 4 show, Britain’s Favourite Railway Stations with Si King – his first significant solo venture since Dave’s passing.

The railway enthusiast is set to meet the dedicated staff who ensure the smooth operation of Britain’s railways. The programme will highlight the nation’s engineering feats and an extensive rail network boasting over 2,600 stations.

Yet, he remains ever nostalgic. “You have to move forward, but the only way you can do that is by cherishing the memories,” he said.

Si’s return to television comes after persistent queries from Hairy Bikers fans, who frequently express their anticipation for his upcoming projects – a sentiment he finds “incredibly humbling.”

Dave died two years after he announced his diagnosis.

In a heartfelt tribute to his best mate, Si wrote: “Last night, on 28th February 2024, with Lili, Dave’s wife, his family, close friend David and myself by his side, he passed away peacefully at home. All who knew Dave are devastated at his passing. His beloved wife brought him such happiness as did her children, Iza and Sergiu who Dave loved like his own.

“Personally, I am not sure I can put into words on how I feel at the moment. My best friend is on a journey that for now, I can’t follow. I will miss him every day and the bond and friendship we shared over half a lifetime.”

He concluded the poignant post: “I wish you God’s speed brother; you are and will remain a beacon in this world. See you on the other side. Love ya.”
