A 32-year-old man appeared before Bristol Crown Court today at the start of a murder trial.

Erdogan Erdogan, of no fixed abode, is accused of murdering his 27-year-old flatmate Fatih Zengi in July 2025.

On the opening day of the trial, Mr Erdogan, sitting beside an interpreter, spoke only to confirm his name.

He denies murder and a charge of carrying a knife in a public place.

The court heard how officers were alerted to a seriously injured man in Manchester Road by a passing cyclist shortly after 5am on Wednesday 2 July.

Despite the best efforts of paramedics at the scene, Fatih died of his injuries shortly afterwards.

The trial is scheduled to last two weeks.
