The location, which has a population of almost 15,000 people, came third on The Telegraph’s ranking of the most dull places, behind destinations such as Surbiton and Stevenage in England.

We travelled to Alloa to decide whether it deserves to be labelled ‘boring’.

Miko Bylinka, Shift Manager at Syrian, told The Scottish Sun: “I don’t think it is the most boring, but recently over the past years, it has gone a bit downhill with a lot of places closing or changing for the worse.

“We still have some interesting things going on in town, especially the old brewery, and the nature here is wonderful.

“But overall the businesses, it feels like some of them have gone downhill with a lot of places for let.

“For the younger generation, there’s less opportunities here, especially in terms of jobs.

“The nightlife is not necessarily the best for young people either. I would say it’s more oriented to older people.”

The streets of Alloa appear to look pretty much the same as most towns across Scotland and the rest of the UK.

It has its fair share of pubs, as well as charity shops, vape shops, and local retailers.

Another resident said: “It’s obviously someone who doesn’t live here or care about people [who said it’s boring], because one great thing about Alloa, and I’ve lived here since 1976, is it’s friendly.”

A third added: “I disagree, my wife and I pop over here once every couple of months and we don’t find it boring.

“There’s a Wetherspoons and there’s loads of cafes.”

A fourth weighed in: “There’s nothing much here for the young ones, but it’s not a bad little place and it’s alright for the community.”

A fifth added: “We’ve got a tower, and more supermarkets than some of the big towns and within walking distance.

“Good butchers and loads of coffee places too.”

The Sandwich Club owner Robert Marshall believes Alloa is one of the cheapest towns.

He said: “There are a lot of shops closed, but there are new shops opening all the time.

“We’re cheap, and we do things cheaper than most other places.

“We do a lot of promotions. We do a lot of meal deals, and I think Alloa is one of the cheapest towns.

“It can be quite isolated, but if you look at Alloa compared to say Stirling, Stirling’s now classed as a city.

“Everything in Stirling is double the price of what it is in Alloa.

“I know people who come here from Stirling to Alloa to do their shopping because it’s cheaper.”
