SQUAD NEWS
The Hobart Hurricanes named an unchanged side to face the Adelaide Strikers at Ninja Stadium on Friday.
Test duo Beau Webster and Jake Weatherald were both unavailable but the Hurricanes gave an update ahead of their second game of the double, on Sunday.
Hobart’s update said: “Jake Weatherald and Beau Webster will likely be available for the next match against the Sydney Sixers on Sunday, with the Ashes wrapping up today.”
Should the duo be available for Sunday’s game against the Sixers, that’d put the job security of all-rounder Will Prestwidge and top-order bat Tim Ward in some jeopardy.
Hurricanes fast bowler Riley Meredith told reporters on Thursday: “It’s going to be a bit of a headache for the selectors (when Webster & Weatherald return). Everyone is in pretty good nick. I think Rehan might go (on England duty during BBL finals). Not sure how we’ll fit them in.”

The Strikers made one change, shuffling their imports again, with South African wrist spinner Tabraiz Shamsi replacing Pakistani paceman Hassan Ali. Strikers captain Matt Short told FiveAA: “It’s nothing against Hassan Ali. He did a really good job for us. It’s purely a match-up thing for us, similar to Perth.”
Chris Lynn is named despite spending time off the field in the last game.
Short praised young in-form all-rounder Liam Scott. He said: “He’s been pretty reliable with both bat and ball. He’s had a big 18 months with the SACA and even Australia A stuff. He’s still a young fella and he’s growing in every match he plays in. He’s getting the job done for us, which is good. He’s one of the first picked at the moment. He’s a genuine all-round option for us and winning us games. He’s super to have in the side.”
The Strikers skipper also provided an update on the potential availability of Alex Carey and Travis Head now that the Ashes Test series is over, with a view to Sunday’s game, the second of their double. Short said: “We love getting (Carey) him back. Not too sure what’s going on with Heady. We’ll leave that up to him.”

UPDATES
Fresh from the Ashes triumph, Player of the Series Mitchell Starc declared he wants to play in BBL|15 for the Sydney Sixers. Starc said: “I’m certainly not looking two years down the road just yet. I’ll pull on the magenta with the man (Steve Smith) next to me.
“We’ll see if we can help (the Sixers) get to another final. Other than the BBL, I haven’t got too many plans other than a bit of golf.”
On the potential addition of Starc along with Steve Smith, new Sixers import Sam Curran said: “Very exciting. I don’t know much about who’s coming in and when. But if I get to play with those guys, they’re obviously world class cricketers.”
On the impact of the stars coming into the Sixers line-up, young spinner Joel Davies told 7Cricket with a laugh: “I think I might be out of the team to be honest… it’s going to be a star-studded line-up. There will be some tough decisions to make for Shippy.”
Tom Curran was a late out for the Melbourne Stars on Thursday due to hip soreness. It’s unclear the extent of the injury and whether it’ll keep him out of Saturday’s derby.
Curran’s brother Sam, who played for the opposition, said: “I don’t think it’s too serious. He picked up a little niggle. Hopefully he’s not too bad. He’s had a great start to the Big Bash, so fingers crossed he can keep going well.”
Honeyball understands Stars batsman Joe Clarke, who has been out with his own hip injury, is now a day by day assessment, with the Stars confident he’ll play at the back-end of the tournament.
Melbourne Renegades fast bowler Tom Rogers is a step closer to a BBL return after off-season shoulder surgery, with a return to come via Victorian Premier Cricket this weekend.
Renegades batsman Ollie Peake, however, won’t be available moving forward having flown out to link up with the Australia squad for the U19 World Cup in Namibia.
The Perth Scorchers have a few issues of their own, with Joel Paris undergoing scans on Thursday on the groin strain he sustained in Wednesday’s loss to the Gades.
Mitch Marsh seems OK after spending time off the field for precautionary reasons with a finger issue.
