Emergency services have raced to a major crash on the M8 near Glasgow Airport this morning. The eastbound section of the busy motorway has been restricted between junctions 28 and 27 after the incident happened at around 8.20am on Friday.

A picture taken from the scene showed police and ambulance crews in attendance. The extent of any injuries suffered as a result of the crash is currently unclear.

The incident has sparked huge rush hour delays. In the latest update from Traffic Scotland, drivers were warned to expect delays of 32 minutes on the M8 and 22 minutes on the A737, with traffic expected to build.

Unconfirmed reports suggest the crash may have been between a lorry and a bus.

One eyewitness said: “There’s a crash just after Glasgow Airport with a bus and a lorry. It’s closed off all the lanes except from the far right.”

Another, who is stuck in traffic on the M8, added: “Definitely avoid if you can. We have sat and moved 100yards in 30mins.”

In a recent update posted at 8.35am on Friday, a spokesperson for Traffic Scotland said: “The M8 is restricted eastbound between junctions 28-27 due to a road traffic incident.

“Lanes one and two are currently closed. Traffic queueing – Delays are approx. 32 mins on the M8 & 22 mins on the A737. Updates to follow”.
