US Sassuolo have identified Birmingham City’s Phil Neumann as a target for the winter market. Aston Villa interest in one of the Serie A club’s defenders could have an impact.
That’s according to Calciomercato.it journalist Maurizio Russo. He took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to report a short update about the Birmingham City player.
A year ago, Neumann signed a pre-contract with the Blues to join them on a free transfer in the summer.
The centre-back started the first five Championship matches before dropping to the bench for the next five. Since then, Chris Davies has utilised him regularly and he’s played 21 matches for Birmingham City so far.
His performances have seen Sassuolo take notice. According to Russo, the Serie A side are considering signing the 28-year-old in January to strengthen their defence.
Sassuolo centre-back Tarik Muharemović is attracting interest from clubs in Italy and across Europe. Earlier this week, Gazzetta dello Sport reported Aston Villa, Manchester United and AFC Bournemouth are all pursuing the 22-year-old Slovenian.
Aston Villa have been repeatedly linked with Muharemović, and his exit would obviously make a move for Neumann likelier. It would also provide Sassuolo with increased funds to spend in the winter market.
If Sassuolo were to make advances for the German, Birmingham City will have a decision to make.
