SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) – Gov. Ron DeSantis has appointed Sarasota resident Dr. Gary Kompothecras, DC, to the Florida Board of Chiropractic Medicine, the governor’s office said.
Kompothecras is recognized for his 1-800-ASK-GARY accident helpline, designed to inform accident victims of their rights and to offer them free access to speak with a doctor and/or attorney.
He is also listed as a producer on the MTV Reality Show ‘Siesta Key’ which featured his son Alex and several other Sarasota locals.
Kompothecras was under investigation in 2023 after a video arcade housed in a building he owned in Bradenton was raided by the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies hauled away nearly a hundred slot-style machines and seized thousands of dollars in cash.
At the time, Kompothecras said he was only the landlord and denied any knowledge of gambling inside. Prosecutors reviewed the evidence and declined to file charges, citing insufficient proof that Kompothecras participated in, or even knew, whether illegal gambling was taking place inside his building.
Kompothecras has donating tens of thousands of dollars to the Republican National Committee, the Florida Republican Party and Friends of Ron DeSantis, among other committees.
According to a news release from the governor’s office, Kompothecras also serves on the Sarasota Military Academy Foundation Board of Directors and has previously held leadership roles with the Sarasota Manatee Airport Authority and the Space Florida Board of Directors. Through 1-800-ASK-GARY®, he also supports youth and community initiatives, including recent partnerships with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Tampa Bay and the Boys & Girls Club of Broward County.
