Heavy snow and strong winds from Storm Goretti has caused significant disruption to the electricity network, leaving around 17,000 properties without power in the West Midlands.

The outage was part of a wider national impact, with over 60,000 homes affected across the country, including more than 45,000 in the South West.

By 8am this morning, National Grid reported that nearly 148,000 properties had been restored across the South West, Midlands, and South Wales, and teams were continuing to work throughout the day to bring power back to remaining affected sites.

Specific areas in the West Midlands remain impacted:

  • Shropshire: Over 300 homes around Shrewsbury and Bayston Hill; nearly 600 near Church Stretton; 200 near Craven Arms; around 600 in and around Telford.

  • Bridgnorth: Approximately 700 properties without power.

  • Pattingham, Shifnal, and Codsall Wood: More than 100 homes affected.

  • Wyre Forest: 12 properties in Stourport, 20 in Callow Hill.

  • Black Country: 40 properties in Pedmore (near Stourbridge), 58 in Halesowen, eight in Smethwick, and 60 in Coseley.

  • Stafford and Cannock: More than 70 homes in Stafford and 10 in Huntington (Cannock), plus four in Featherstone.

Restoration times vary, with some homes expected to regain power by midday Friday, while more rural areas may remain without electricity until early Saturday morning.

Businesses and residents are encouraged to monitor the National Grid Power Cut Map for updates on current outages and expected restoration times.
