A BLANKET of snow has covered Solihull.

Families took to the gardens and parks to create their very own snowmen, go head to head in snowball fights and headed up the hills to have a go at sledging.

While others, like Ted, preferred to stay in the warm and admire the snowy scenes.

Schools and colleges across the borough have been contacting parents to say whether they are open or if children can spend the day in the snow.

Meanwhile waste and recycling collections were suspended in Solihull due to the conditions of the roads.

Solihull Council said: “If your refuse has been missed, please put your rubbish and any additional bagged rubbish out for your next scheduled collection on January 16.

“If your recycling has not been collected, please leave your recycling bins out and we will return week commencing January 12.”

The runway at Birmingham Airport reopened at 7.15am following an overnight closure.

On X the airport said: “Our runway has reopened on a reduced basis, and our teams are working to get passengers away as efficiently as possible.

“Whilst we apologise for any inconvenience Storm Goretti has caused, the safety of our colleagues and customers is our number one priority.

“Passengers due to travel are advised to check the status of their flight with their airline.”
