Dozens of protestors have gathered outside the US Consulate in the capital to condemn American ‘foreign aggression.’ Some of those in attendance can be seen waving Palestinian and Venezuelan flags outside of the Regent Terrace building.

Speakers can be seen addressing the crowd during the gathering. It is understood members of the Scottish Socialist Party and both Edinburgh Stop The War and their Glaswegian counterparts were in attendance alongside members of the public.

Stop The War Coalition Scotland held up a banner outside the Consulate which read: “End the siege of Gaza.” While another protestor can be seen holding aloft a diamond placard stating: “Free Palestine” and “No War In Venezuela.”

Trump ordered American special forces to abduct Nicholas Maduro from Caracas on January 3 which led to a mixed response from US allies and adversaries. In 2025 Trump has threatened to annex Greenland while also bombing seven foreign nations: Venezuela, Nigeria, Iran, Yemen, Iraq Syria and Somalia.

On January 7, US forces boarded and seized a Russian oil tanker, the Marinera, in the Atlantic off the coast of Iceland with the help of the UK. This has led to Glasgow Stop The War issuing a statement on X, condemning the UK government for spending money on military ventures to support US actions instead of prioritising domestic matters such as education.

Their statement read: “NO TO TRUMP’S WARS: money for jobs and education, not for war and occupation!

“Demonstration outside the US consulate today calling on our government to condemn Trump’s reckless acts of aggression at the cost of working class people at home and abroad.”

The US Edinburgh Consulate and the UK Cabinet Office have been approached for comment.
