A man suffered serious injuries in the assault at his home

Greater Manchester Police are appealing for information following a disturbance in Woodley that saw a man suffer serious injuries in an assault at his home.

The force said that officers responded to reports of a disturbance at an address in the Woodley Precinct area.

They believe several men ‘broke into a property’, .causing ‘significant damage’ before fleeing.

While conducting enquiries at this address, officers were alerted to another incident at another nearby property, in which a man was assaulted in his home by two men.

The man suffered suffered serious injuries in this incident, which are not believed to be life-threatening.

Four people, aged 19, 44, 45 and 48, have since been arrested on suspicion of Section 18 assault and remain in custody for questioning

Enquiries are ongoing as the two cases are being treated as linked, but were believed to be targeted with no wider threat to the community.

Detective Inspector Michael Dever, from GMP’s Stockport district, said: “This shocking incident is something which will naturally be a cause for concern for local residents, I want to reassure them that we believe these incidents are isolated and do not pose a threat to the wider community.

“Two men have been injured as a result and we have now arrested four people in relation to both matters.

“Our officers and staff continue to investigate the circumstances and officers will be remaining in the area as this is carried out.

“I would urge anyone with information to get in touch with us, either directly or anonymously.”
