Back in October, boutique Thai spot Bangkok Diners Club above the Edinburgh Castle pub in Ancoats earned its place in the prestigious Michelin Guide, but now owners have confirmed that the restaurant has closed down. The owners sent and email to customers stating that Bangkok Diners Club “sadly won’t be returning to Edinburgh Castle“.

The email sent to customers by Bangkok Diners Club reads: “We have just noticed that the system has allowed you to make a reservation during a time that we are closed. We apologise that this has happened.

“Ben and Bo are cooking at Exhibition during 2026 and Bangkok Diners Club sadly won’t be returning to Edinburgh Castle. Sincerest apologies for all the inconvenience caused.”

Making waves with a menu packed with the likes of smoked mackerel, grapefruit and ginger salad; ex-dairy beef nam tok salad with bone marrow aioli; artichoke and golden beetroot massaman curry; roast pork belly phat phet and rhubarb; Thai omelette with smoked mushroom nam prik pao; as well as chicken fat rice, the inventive team made sure Bangkok Diners Club was one of a kind.

What did the Michelin Guide inspectors say about Bangkok Diners Club?

Back in October the Michelin Guide said: “A taste of Thailand has arrived, of all places, above a Victorian pub in Ancoats. Sitting on the first floor of the characterful Edinburgh Castle inn, it’s a lively, deservedly popular place with a cool rustic-meets-retro vibe.

“Despite the name, the cooking takes inspiration from all over Thailand, including several dishes from the northeastern Isan region, such as raw bass with calamansi nam jim or a classic papaya salad. Each plate looks neat and vibrant, delivering an array of well-balanced flavours and the occasional hit of creativity.”

This isn’t goodbye though, with Bangkok Diners Club setting out plans to set up shop at Manchester’s beloved Exhibition. After that, the world’s their oyster, and they don’t seem to be slowing down – so make sure to keep an eye on their social media in the next few months.
