Barry Manilow has encouraged supporters to “say goodbye” following his cancer diagnosis. The iconic singer, 82, revealed last month that he was set to undergo surgery after being diagnosed with lung cancer.
When making the announcement, he stated that he would need to postpone a number of live shows to allow for the operation and subsequent recovery period. However, Barry’s management team have now confirmed he’ll be back on stage shortly, , reports the Mirror.
In a post shared on Instagram, they disclosed that he’s added six extra dates to his current tour schedule. They wrote: “Years from now, when you look back on these dates, you’ll want to know you were there to say goodbye.”
The statement on the social media platform read: “Surprise! Barry is feeling great… So great that he’s decided to add six additional concerts to his existing March schedule. Barry will now visit Charlotte, Norfolk, Baltimore, Cincinnati, Nashville, and Lexington this March! The Fan Club Pre-Sale begins Tuesday, January 13th at 10AM PT.”
However, whilst supporters welcomed the announcement, some expressed worry, with one commenting: “Isn’t it too soon for Barry? He just had surgery, and I think he needs time to fully recover. Oh well.. Wishing Barry all the best.
“I’m worried that you’re already doing shows so soon after your surgery. I couldn’t care less that your fans in the United States (I live in Argentina) hate me for telling you to prioritise your health,” one concerned follower remarked.
Yet plenty of others were delighted by news of Barry’s rapid recovery, with one writing: “Yep. Iron man.
“I’m so excited you are coming to Norfolk,” another fan typed enthusiastically, whilst a third gushed: “So thrilled to see you coming to Baltimore, MD and just in time for my 65th Birthday.”
Barry’s welcome announcement arrives mere days after he posted an update from what appeared to be his hospital bed.
In a selfie he’d sent via text message, Barry could be seen smiling whilst reclining. His caption read: “Better today!”.
Last month, Barry revealed his diagnosis, which followed a spell of poor health that included a lengthy bout of bronchitis. Speaking to his followers, he explained: “As many of you know I recently went through six weeks of bronchitis followed by a relapse of another five weeks.

“Even though I was over the bronchitis and back on stage at the Westgate Las Vegas, my wonderful doctor ordered an MRI just to make sure that everything was OK.
“The MRI discovered a cancerous spot on my left lung that needs to be removed. It’s pure luck (and a great doctor) that is was found so early. That’s the good news. The bad news is that now that the Christmas Gift Of Love concerts are over I’m going into surgery to have the spot removed. The doctors do not believe it has spread and I’m taking tests to confirm their diagnosis.”
He continued: “So that’s it. No chemo. No radiation. Just chicken soup and I Love Lucy reruns.”
He further stated: “The only follow-up is a month to recover and that means we have to reschedule the January arena concerts. I’m very sorry that you have to change your plans. Just like you, we were all looking forward to the January shows and hate having to move everything around.”
