A planning framework designed to drive regeneration and attract investment in the Sefton town has been signed off by the council’s cabinet.

The Bootle Area Action Plan covers more than 2,000 acres and “reflects the commitment the council has on the ongoing regeneration and investment in the town”, a cabinet report said.

Over the next 20 years, the action plan will guide the development of housing and employment space in Bootle, usher in improvements to public relam, and facilitate the progression of schemes already under way, including the redevelopment of the Strand shopping centre.

The plan will also pave the way for new projects like the proposed new town in partnership with Liverpool City Council.

Cllr Paulette Lappin, Sefton Council’s cabinet member for regeneration, economy and skills, has previously said that the plan will “give developers and investors the certainty and confidence to bring projects to the town”.

The action plan was jointly funded by Sefton Council and the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority.

Lappin said: “This is the first time Sefton Council has introduced an Area Action Plan, and it shows the commitment we have to Bootle’s regeneration and the ambition we have for the future of the town, its residents, businesses and communities.”
