A Lifeboat crew from South Queensferry raced into action after they were alerted to a person in trouble in the Forth.

Brave RNLI crew members rescued a person who had ‘fallen’ in the Firth of Forth.
The hero Lifeboat team were called to action by the UK Coastguard after they received reports of a person on an inflatable mattress east of Cramond Island. They raced to the scene at around 9.20am on Sunday January 11.
The individual is understood to have been able to self-recover but were pulled aboard the RNLI boat. They were then transported to Granton Harbour where an ambulance was awaiting their arrival.
In a statement released on the RNLI Queensferry Lifeboat page, they said: “This morning, Queensferry Lifeboat was tasked by UK Coastguard to reports of a person on an inflatable mattress east of Cramond Island. The casualty had been reported to have fallen in the water but had managed to self-recover.
“The lifeboat made best speed to the area and quickly located the causalty. The casualty had been on the water since 0800 and was wet and extremely cold, with the sea temperature being around seven degrees.
Our volunteer crew recovered the casualty and equipment to the lifeboat. The person was wrapped up for warmth and it was assessed that an ambulance and rapid evacuation would be required. The lifeboat made best speed to Granton Harbour where the casualty was handed over to Scottish Ambulance Service crew, SORT and South Queensferry Coastguard Rescue Team.
“The lifeboat returned to station and was made ready for service at 1115. This was Queensferry Lifeboat’s 4th shout of 2026.”
