A man injured in a shed explosion was later arrested on suspicion of producing drugs, police have revealed. Greater Manchester Police said on Friday afternoon they were responding to reports of a ‘small explosion’ in a shed in a back garden in Prestwich.
A police cordon remains in place and emergency services are at the scene, GMP added. The force said there was ‘no risk to the wider public’ and described it as an ‘isolated incident’.
A man in his 40s suffered minor injuries to his hands in the blast, and was later arrested on suspicion of production of Class B drugs, a spokesperson said. Emergency services were called to Chapel Road in Prestwich on Friday afternoon.
In a statement, GMP Bury said: “We are currently responding reports of an explosion in a shed on Chapel Road in Prestwich this afternoon (Friday 2 May 2025).

“Officers alongside colleagues in the fire service attended the property and it was established there was a small explosion in the back garden within a shed.

“There is no risk to the wider public and officers are treating this as an isolated incident. One man in his 40s has suffered minor injuries to his hands and he has been arrested on suspicion of production of Class B drugs.
“A cordon remains in place at the property as a precaution whilst officers and emergency services work in the area to establish what has happened and we would like to thank the public for their support and cooperation at this time.”
No further details have been revealed.
