It’s one of a number of offers to get people into pubs and restaurants this JanuaryThe bottomless carvery deal is running at all Farmhouse sites

January can be a bit depressing can’t it? Especially that first week back at work dealing with dark mornings and icy roads. That’s why, nearing the end of the first full week of the month, me and the other half decided to treat ourselves to a pub tea.

It’s not something we’d typically do just after the excesses of Christmas, but the bottomless carvery deal at Farmhouse Inns seemed too good to refuse.

For £9.99 you get unlimited carvery and a soft drink or hot drink – and if you’re eating at one of the Farmhouse Kitchen sites like we were, calling in at Farmhouse Kitchen Worsley, those drinks are bottomless too.

I was happy with my Diet Coke, but my husband was keen to take advantage of the £2 upgrade to get a pint of beer instead. The advert says you can pick from a pint of alcohol-free Heineken 0.0 or Birra Moretti and after a long day at work he wanted the proper stuff. For those not wanting beer you can also get a glass of red or white house wine, or a G&T with Beefeater gin and Schweppes tonic.

But this is when the pub chain’s offer seemingly fell apart. You see, they don’t even sell Birra Moretti, at least not at this site anyway. And no other beer was offered as an alternative. So as well as spending the £9.99 for each of us, I then forked out £5.98 for a pint of Madri.

I know many people will be thinking it’s ‘a first world problem’ and I agree. But if companies run these offers to get people through the door, then they need to honour what is promised.

The carvery itself was fine and let’s be honest, you can put that much on your plate (I put a bit too much) that I’m surely hardly anyone goes back for a second helping. So while the £9.99 offer is good – especially that it includes meat too – you’re not really saving that much on what you’d typically spend. An adult carvery is usually £9.49 and bottomless soft drink £3.99.

I think most customers welcome these offers though, especially at this time of year, but unless they’re secretly trying to do their bit for Dry January, they really need to do what they say on the tin.

Available weekdays from 3pm to 8pm between now and January 30, the ‘Roast with the Most’ is available at all the Farmhouse Inns sites, including the likes of Barley Farm in Eccles, Salford; Pine Tree Farm in Over Hulton, Bolton; Ash Tree Farm in Ashton, Tameside; Coppice Wood Farm, near the Trafford Centre; Bramley Farm in Altrincham and Farmhouse Kitchen Worsley.

A spokesperson for Farmhouse, said: “Whilst we strive to offer a wide range of beverages within this offer, this does vary from restaurant to restaurant depending on availability at the time.

“Our unlimited carvery is available until 30th January 3pm-8pm, and we look forward to welcoming new and returning guests to enjoy the roast with the most!”

The spokesperson confirmed that, going forward, an alternative alcoholic lager will now be offered at Farmhouse Kitchen Worsley as part of the deal.
