The city of Mulhouse, in France, has announced the creation of a Eurovision Village.

Mulhouse will host a Eurovision Village from May 8 to May 18 at the autodrome of the Automobile Museum. The city announced a “XXL festival” to “celebrate music” and “offer an immersive Eurovision experience” to its visitors, including in the program the broadcast of the semi-finals and the final, a 200 m² roller skating rink, a special Abba evening, together with food trucks and free concerts. Louane, the representative for France at Eurovision 2025, is expected to perform too.

Frédéric Musslin, organiser of the Eurovision Village, explained how the project was born:

we know the attachment that exists between Basel, Fribourg and Mulhouse. The desire to cooperate is increasingly present. (…) Here, there was a real request from the Basel municipality, which approached the one of Mulhouse. This is where the project started.

300,000 to 500,000 visitors are expected in the area around Basel, but the entry to the Eurovision Village in Mulhouse will be limited to 5,000 visitors.

France will be represented this year by Louane and her song “Maman”. As a Big Five member, France is automatically qualified for the Grand Final of May 17. Before the final, France will also perform during the second semi-final of May 15 as the country is due to vote during that semi-final.

France was one of seven countries to participate in the first Eurovision Song Contest in 1956. Since then they have participated in every contest aside from 1974 and 1982. Their withdrawal in 1974 was caused by the death of President Georges Pompidou, while 1982’s withdrawal was a result of TF1 declining to enter the contest. France has won the contest on five occasions, the most recent being in 1977 when Marie Myriam performed “L’oiseau et l’enfant”. France’s best result of the 21st century came in 2021 when Barbara Pravi finished second in Rotterdam.
