R Madhavan: Didn’t Know What’s Depression, Now Children Are Taught Good-Bad Touch, Religion In School | EXCL

R Madhavan belongs to the generation of actors who know how to experiment and push boundaries. Having completed 25 years in the industry, the actor believes the youngsters have it tougher to navigate through the complexities of life and career due to changing times. In an exclusive interview with Zoom, Madhavan said the older generation didn’t have the pressure that the current one is bound to deal with.

R Madhavan feels younger generation has it easier than the previous

Madhavan said, “I believe we had it easier than the current generation. At least we could live our lives freely without worrying about other things. Now, they have to make their careers while also trying to navigate through many tricky points. We could experiment and explore without worrying about wokeism. Sometimes woke, sometimes not. The older generation didn’t have this pressure.”

‘Didn’t know what’s depression’

He added, “With due respect, we did not know what depression was. Even if I have or had it, I wouldn’t be able to identify it. Jaisa chalta hai chalne do. In school, I had fractured my right hand and didn’t even tell my mother about it. I continued doing my homework and my mother kept hitting that arm only. I struggled to write. After two days, when I told her about it, she wept profusely.”

The actor further shared, “There were no mobile phones and when children went on picnics, their parents weren’t constantly chasing them. They were assured that the child is enjoying himself/herself out in the open with friends. The child will be back home safely. Chhot lagti thit oh uspe zyada dhyan nahi dete the. Now, the situation has changed.”

Observing the current situation, Madhavan told, “Now, once the child goes to school, he/she is taught about good touch-bad touch, religion and so many things. The child is burdened with so much that he/she can’t live freely.”

Madhavan is enjoying the success of Kesari Chapter 2, which released on April 18. It co-stars Akshay Kumar and Ananya Panday.
