Awards. The nomination recognises the operator’s leadership in delivering cleaner public transport and driving measurable progress towards Net Zero across the region.
The recognition follows the introduction of 48 new electric buses during 2025 across multiple South Scotland depots, alongside continued investment in charging infrastructure to support long-term fleet decarbonisation. A key milestone within this wider programme was the launch of Edinburgh Airport’s first fully electric bus service, JET747, helping reduce emissions on one of Scotland’s most strategically important transport corridors.
While Edinburgh-focused, the service forms part of a broader South Scotland investment that is transforming operations in Ardrossan and Kilmarnock.
In addition to fleet electrification, Stagecoach South Scotland says it has reduced carbon emissions by more than 1,200 tonnes in 12 months, accelerated progress towards zero waste to landfill, and supported over 130 suppliers through sustainability training aligned to the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
“While projects like the electric JET747 service are highly visible, they sit within a much larger programme of investment that is reshaping our fleet, our depots and our environmental impact” – Fiona Doherty, Managing Director of Stagecoach South Scotland
Fiona Doherty, Managing Director of Stagecoach South Scotland, said: “Being shortlisted for Net Zero Champion of the Year is a powerful recognition of the commitment and expertise of our teams right across South Scotland.
