A restaurant owned by a celebrity chef has quietly disappeared from Liverpool city centre without a word. Marco Pierre White’s eponymous steakhouse and grill, which was located on the ground floor of Chapel Street’s Indigo Hotel, is permanently closed.

Marco, who was one of the youngest chefs ever to have been awarded three Michelin stars, opened his Liverpool restaurant in 2011. Five years later, the restaurant received a huge renovation which saw new décor inspired by Liverpool’s trade links and rich music legacy brought in.

The new-look restaurant mixed industrial fixtures and fittings of warm coppers and weathered woods, with brown leather chairs, exposed brick walls and earthy tones, decorated with coloured cotton spools, record players and music memorabilia.

Marco Pierre White’s restaurant has closed, with the venue’s social media pages removed from their respective platforms. A notice on the company’s website for the Liverpool location advises guests that the venue is no longer operating in the city.

A message from the company said: “Sorry we missed you! We’re no longer at this location. But don’t worry, you can still get succulent steaks and tantalising desserts at another one of our Marco Pierre White restaurants. See you there soon!”

Marco Pierre White continues to operate more than 15 restaurants across England, including his Italian, alehouse and fish and chips concepts.

A new business has opened at the premises, offering a mixed menu that includes pizzas, burgers, bowls and bar bites. Chapel & Barrel is now open to the public for lunches and evening meals, occupying the ground-floor space within the Indigo Hotel.

Kieran Poole, general manager at Hotel Indigo Liverpool by IHG, said: “We wanted to create a stylish yet relaxed space where guests and locals alike can enjoy great food and fantastic drinks, whether they are popping in for a quick bite or settling in for the evening.

“The menu is delicious, the decor is impressive, and Chapel Street is a fantastic location. I’m looking forward to seeing this new restaurant shine.”

The £15m boutique hotel opened in spring 2011 by Merseyside-based entrepreneur Simon Matthews-Williams’ company, Sanguine Hospitality Management, which owned hotels, health clubs and spas across the UK.

The seven-storey building boasts 151 beds, a terrace for dinning and drinking alfresco, a fitness centre and the Cotton Lounge for cocktails. The design of the hotel was “locally inspired” to bring a “vibrant feel to the heart of the commercial district and to the city”.
