Major events brought over 858,000 attendees to Sheffield in 2025, with an economic impact of more than £52.2m and a total visitor spend exceeding £32m – according to new figures released by Sheffield City Council.

The city’s return on investment for council-supported events reached £32.65 for every £1 invested, which the council says underlines Sheffield’s status as a “powerhouse” for live events and festivals.

In the spring, Sheffield again hosted the World Snooker Championships at the Crucible Theatre, drawing tens of thousands of spectators.

The summer brought a wave of music and celebration from Bassfest to 90’ Fest. Tramlines and Tramlines Fringe filled Hillsborough Park and the city centre, together attracting well over 100,000 attendees and delivering Sheffield’s single biggest economic impact of the year.

Other highlights included Sheffield DocFest, the Sheffield Food Festival, and the Rock n Roll Circus.

During autumn, October’s Out of This World festival transformed the city centre with a celebration of science fiction and fantasy, while the year concluded with a festive flourish as Christmas events and Light Up Sheffield illuminated the city.

Councillor Mohammed Mahroof, chair of the Economic Development, Skills and Culture Committee at Sheffield City Council, said: “Sheffield’s events programme in 2025 showed our city at its best – welcoming hundreds of thousands of people.

“Behind those headline figures are thousands of unforgettable experiences, busy local businesses, and volunteers who make it all happen.

“As we look ahead, we’re excited to build on this momentum – starting with the European Figure Skating Championships and a packed year of sport, culture and creativity that will continue to bring people together and showcase Sheffield to the world.”
