A group dedicated to tackling local issues is presenting a talk on frauds and scams next month.
Forres Area Forum (FAF) is welcoming Police Scotland crime reduction and architectural liaison officer, Richard Russell, to advise on how to stay safe online from 7-8pm in the North room at Forres Town Hall on Wednesday, February 4.
Scammers are using mobile phones to dupe unsuspecting victims.
FAF chairwoman, Anne Rossiter, confirmed anyone who is interested is welcome to attend.
She said: “Fraud is a hot topic across the UK and one which causes much distress, anxiety, heartache and financial loss to many.
“Those who have experienced this often feel embarrassed and foolish at being drawn into dialogue with the fraudsters and scammers.
“We would like to provide a platform of reassurance that will allow people to gain confidence in dealing with such matters and be more confident when making online purchases and using social media.”
PC Russell will provide insight into current trends being reported to the police in Moray.
PC Russell will provide advice on how to be safe when using the internet.
He will also be open to questions from attendees, provide supportive information and offer leaflets for them to take home for reference.
Anne finished: “We encourage pensioners and those who live alone with limited support, along with anyone who feels they want to be more informed, to attend.”
FAF represents the communities of Forres, Findhorn, Kinloss, Dyke, Edinkillie and surrounding areas. The group, bringing together representatives from local organisations and residents, aims to provide support for the community by staging events covering various topics this year.
