A man threatened ‘topless’ men with a chair during an alleged Edinburgh street brawl which left one person in hospital.

Emergency crews raced to South Bridge, at the junction with High Street, shortly before 4am on Friday morning,. May 2.

As Edinburgh Live reports, footage from the scene shows several people clashing on the middle of the road, one of which appears to be holding a chair aloft.

Two other men who appear to be topless can be seen dodging the man before he appears to connect with one swing infront of stunned onlookers.

Several men go over in an attempt to defuse the situation as another is pushed to the ground. Police were called and a 37-year-old man was arrested and charged in connection with the incident.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 3.50am on Friday, 2 May, 2025, we received a report of an assault on South Bridge, Edinburgh.

“Emergency services attended and a 25-year-old man was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh for treatment.

“A 37-year-old man was arrested and charged in connection. He is due to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court at a later date.”
