Emergency services were called to the Drum Brae Drive area of the Scottish capital at around 9.45am on Tuesday.
Police said that a 44-year-old man was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh for treatment following the incident.
According to the Daily Record, several police cars, along with armed officers, were spotted at the scene, along with a man soaked in blood with bandages wrapped around his head.

It is understood that officers are still in attendance and that police enquiries are ongoing.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 9.45 am on Tuesday, 13 January, we received a report of a man injured in the Drum Brae Drive area of Edinburgh.
“Emergency services attended and a 44-year-old man was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh for treatment.
“Officers are in attendance and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.”
Lothian Bus services have been diverted following the incident as the road is still locked down by officers.
A statement from Lothian Buses regarding the bus services 17 and 21 said: “Due to road closures, buses are unable to serve Drum Brae Drive and are instead diverted via Drum Brae North, and Queensferry Road in both directions until further notice.”
