LONDON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — Firefighters in London remain on scene this morning following a commercial structure fire where a person was removed from inside the building.

According to a post from the London City Fire Department, first-arriving crews made entry under extremely heavy conditions and were able to remove an occupant from the structure.

Battalion Chief Brandon Wagers praised firefighters for their actions during the response.

“Proud of our crews. First-arriving firefighters made entry under heavy conditions and successfully removed an occupant from the structure,” Wagers said. “This is exactly why we are here for the community. Prayers for the person that was pulled out,” said Wagers in the Facebook post.

According to London Mayor Randall Weddle, the person was taken to Lexington.

Firefighters remain on scene along with assisting departments, continuing suppression and overhaul operations. Officials say public safety remains a top priority.

The fire department asked the community to keep the individual involved, their family, and responding firefighters in their thoughts. Additional updates are expected as more information becomes available.
