This is another blow to Warriors’ ambitions of becoming a leading club in the URC and Champions Cup, although a combination of injury and rest protocols meant that Saturday was only Jones’ third appearance for the club since last December.

With Sione Tuipulotu still on the books, Stafford McDowall performing excellently in Jones’ absence during the first half of the season, youngster such as Duncan Munn, Kerr Yule and Johnny Ventisei looking for game-time, and the likes of Kyle Steyn, Ollie Smith and Dan Lancaster all able to slot in at 12 or 13 as required, Warriors are not quite scraping the barrel in terms of midfield options at the moment. But neither is their cup overflowing in the way it did last season, before Tom Jordan‘s departure to Bristol Bears.

Jones has been capped 58 times by Scotland, scoring 23 tries, while his form for club and country saw him selected for the 2025 British & Irish Lions tour of Australia, featuring in all three Tests and scoring a try in the decisive second Test victory. He was the only Scotland player selected in world Rugby’s 2025 Team Of The Year.

Toulon sporting director Laurent Emmanuelli said: “The arrival of Huw Jones is the result of a background work carried out for several months.

“He is an international-class player, a framework of his national team, who has long evolved at the highest European and world level.

“His rugby qualities, his demand and his experience will be valuable assets for the group.

“It fits perfectly into our sports project, combining immediate performance and support for our young players.”
