Jeffrey Lang has been appointed by the province to return to the London Police Service Board, bringing back a former board member at a time when police are looking to improve their connection and service to the community.

The London Police Service Board announced Tuesday that Lang was appointed by the Ontario government as one of its provincial representatives. He previously served on the board for two years from 2019 to 2021 and will be sworn in on Thursday.

Lang is currently the president and CEO of the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB). Before taking on that role, he built a career leading companies with international operations.

In a statement, board chair Ryan Gauss said Lang’s return comes at a “pivotal moment” for the board as it works to strengthen governance and community trust in policing.

“With an impressive business and community-oriented background, deep roots in London, and prior police board experience, Mr. Lang is a valuable addition to this board,” Gauss said in the release.

Lang has held several leadership roles in London’s non-profit and community sectors, including vice-president of Ronald McDonald House Charities, president of the Boys & Girls Club of London, chair of the Alzheimer Foundation of London, and board member of both Pathways Skills Development and the London Food Bank.

Lang said he was “humbled” to return to the board and emphasized community safety.

“The safety and well-being of our community and first responders are vitally important,” Lang said.

“I’m honoured by the opportunity to rejoin the London Police Services Board and serve the community I’ve proudly called home my entire life.”

Lang’s appointment fills one of the provincial seats on the board as it continues its work under Ontario’s Community Safety and Policing Act.
