Promising a new approach to wellbeing, Hillbrow Health and Wellbeing in Eastbourne is believed to be the first in the country to combine GP appointments with leisure centre services under a single scheme.
The membership, developed by Wave Active together with the South Downs Health and Care GP Federation, aims to make preventative health easier by integrating clinical and leisure support in one location.
Dr Nick Harvey, GP and chief executive of South Downs Health and Care, said: “Bringing clinical care and physical activity together under one roof is a major step forward for how we support people’s health.
“Too much of healthcare still focuses on illness rather than prevention.
“MyHealth changes that by giving people easy access to high‑quality medical advice alongside the facilities and support that help them stay well in the first place.
“Hillbrow was created to show what a truly integrated approach can look like, and this membership is another important milestone in making that vision real for our community.”
Members will receive up to six GP appointments per year, with the option to transfer them to family members if needed, all within the same venue as gym facilities, group classes, a swimming pool and more.
Duncan Kerr, chief executive of Wave Active and co-founder of Hillbrow Health & Wellbeing, said: “This is the first time face‑to‑face clinical provision has been included within a comprehensive fitness package within the same health and wellbeing complex.
“It marks a fundamental shift towards our goal of uniting clinical and leisure professionals to improve the health of the local community.
“We’re stronger together, more effective in partnership and we will achieve more as we continue to evolve this relationship. That is exactly what we are delivering at Hillbrow Health and Wellbeing.”
Other benefits of the membership include unlimited access to the gym, swimming pool, fitness classes and an annual nurse review followed by a consultation call with a GP.
Members also receive a personalised fitness plan reviewed every 10 – 12 weeks, including two 45‑minute sessions with a qualified fitness instructor.
