South Yorkshire Police will become the first force in the UK to launch the National My Police Portal (NMPP), a two-way messaging system designed to improve communication and support for victims of crime.

The portal will go live on Tuesday, January 20, and will cover 19 crime types including burglary, fraud, violence with injury, theft, arson and robbery.

Cherie Buttle, chief superintendent, said: “We are very excited to launch the National My Police Portal next week, and I am proud that we are the first force in the country to make use of this system.

“The portal will help us to support victims of crime, ensuring that they have direct contact with the officer in charge of their case, and receive the best service we can provide.”

From January 20, when an eligible crime is reported, victims will receive an email or text invitation to access the portal through the Gov.UK One website.

Once logged in, users will be directed to a portal that resembles the South Yorkshire Police website and allows them to send messages to the officer handling their case.

Officers will be notified of new messages.
