Coronation Street fans think they have “rumbled” who will be behind Megan Walsh’s downfall. Fans of the world’s longest-running TV soap will know that the athletics coach has been carrying out an illicit affair with Will Driscoll, who only just turned sixteen, for months now, whilst trying to cover her tracks by getting into a relationship with fellow teacher Daniel Osbourne whilst getting a job at Weatherfield High.

In the latest episode of the Manchester-based serial, Daniel was throwing a birthday party for his son Bertie at number one, and the little one fished a pregnancy test out of her handbag, much to Megan’s embarrassment and Daniel’s horror. Megan then told Alya: “In front of his entire family, I am mortified. I got it for one of the girls at school. The look on his face, it was like his whole world had ended. It was like he was ashamed or something.”

Later on, in the pub, Daniel and Megan had a conversation about the pregnancy test, where he told her that he had once been deceived by his ex, referencing the time that Daisy Midgeley (Charlotte Jordan) let him believe that he was going to be a dad again, when in fact she had slept with Kit Green, noting that it was one of the “worst times” of his life.

Megan continued to insist that the test was for a student at school and suggested they drop the issue as she kissed Daniel. Will had been watching from the bar and she insisted as she made her way to the ladies’ that it was “not what it looked like.”

But, unbeknownst to them, Daniel’s sister Tracy had already been growing suspicious of Megan as she watched on from the bar herself. At one point, she turned to Alya and said: “Well, are you sure it wasn’t for her? It doesn’t look like she’s drinking,” before Alya reminded her that not everyone drinks alcohol. Not convinced, Tracy said: “Mark my words though, there’s summit about her. I don’t know what it is. But there is.”

Fans instantly took to social media to react to the possibility that Tracy, who was born on-screen in 1977 and has been played by Kate Ford since 2002, could be the one to detect that Megan is doing something untoward. One wrote: “Absolutely love that Tracy thinks something is not right about Megan. Nothing gets past her! Tracy’s dislike of everyone is actually her power at sensing something is off about a person. With Megan she has a right to be suspicious.”

Another said: “Tracy noticing there’s something off with Megan! Our Trace always knows!” and a third said: “Pretty sure Tracy’s secret power is spotting deceivers.” Fans have been growing ever concerned since Megan (Beth Nixon) arrived on the cobbles, and she was recently seen trying to get rid of a mystery caller.

She fumed: “I thought I told you not to call me again. Of course I meant it. Please, will you just let it go?” After a brief pause during which the mystery caller made a suggestion, she said: “No, no, no, no, no. That wouldn’t be a good idea for either of us. Just leave me alone, okay?”

It could all come to light very soon as there’s no sign of the drama stopping for Megan because actress Beth recently signed a new contract. Speaking about landing the role, Beth said: “Earlier this year, my agent sent me a casting brief and explained it was for a paedophile, which is a bit crazy to play because they’re obviously not a redeemable character, so they can push it pretty far.”

Beth also spoke about raising awareness of the subject matter, which is sometimes glamourised in society. She said: “It creates a lot of debate, because a lot of people say, ‘It’s a 15-year-old boy’s dream’ but, if you flip it the other way round, it’s always seen as disgusting.

If it’s a storyline that makes one person recognise that this is happening to them and it’s wrong, then it has done its job.”

Meanwhile, talking about playing Megan, newcomer Beth previously told Metro : “Megan is very calculated. Everything she does is for a reason, but she’s very good at hiding that. She’s very insecure, but again, she hides it. So she’s very confident and charismatic on the outside; she charms people, she makes people feel sorry for her, she makes people like her.

“She’s worming her way into this family; she’s almost like a parasite. But as an actor, I obviously need to find that humanity in her and make her a rounded character. She’s not a one-dimensional character. She’s not just this evil person.”

Beth continued: “She has all these other things going on—all these life experiences she’s had, which have led her up to this point. The audience doesn’t know, the other characters don’t know, but she knows. So, there are all these things I’ve decided in my preparation.”

Coronation Street airs Mondays – Friday at 8:30pm on ITV1 and ITV X.
