Manchester United interim head coach Michael Carrick has overseen two training sessions at Carrington with 26 players confirmed to have taken part ahead of Saturday’s derby vs Manchester City. The former midfielder was appointed until the end of the season on Tuesday.

Bryan Mbeumo and Amad have been pictured back at Carrington after Cameroon and Ivory Coast exited the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) last weekend in the quarter-finals. Before leaving for AFCON, both men had enjoyed a good start to the season.

Amad had recorded two goals and three assists for the Reds this season. Meanwhile, Mbeumo is the club’s top goalscorer with six to his name in 16 matches. Bruno Fernandes is now just one goal behind him on five for the season.

The captain was among the senior players training alongside some of the academy stars who were given the chance to train with the first team. Habeeb Ogunneye spent the first part of this season on loan at League Two Newport County but his spell in south Wales ended on Wednesday.

The 18-year-old was sent off during Sunday’s FA Cup third round defeat to Brighton and Hove Albion. His one-game suspension will be served this weekend with Lacey back available to feature again on January 25 at Premier League leaders Arsenal.
